Wayne County To Provide Free HIV Testing On World AIDS Day

WAYNE (AP) — Free HIV testing and counseling will be offered on World AIDS Day at the Wayne County Health Clinic in Wayne, west of Detroit.

No appointment is necessary and testing is open to Wayne County residents on Tuesday at the clinic on Van Born Road.

The county says World AIDS Day is observed annually on Dec. 1 and is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of the HIV infection.

More than 1.2 million people in the United States are believed to have HIV, and nearly one in eight are unaware they are infected.

The Wayne County Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness has administered nearly 1,000 HIV tests this year.
