Wayne County Hopes To Draw New Jail Officers, Waives Physical Test Fee

DETROIT (AP)  - A physical abilities test is being offered for men and women interested in working as Wayne County Jail officers.

The sheriff's office says the pre-hire test is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Wayne State University's athletic multipurpose annex facility in Detroit.

The $50 test fee is being waived. Anyone who passes the physical test will have the option of taking the required written test that day and submitting a job application.

The sheriff's office has 100 vacant jail officer positions. New officer salaries begin at $29,698.

Applicants must be at least 18 and bring a valid driver's license. A physician-signed health screening form approving participation in the test must be presented.
