Wayne County Getting Its First New Treasurer In 39 Years

DETROIT (AP) - An assistant prosecutor has been selected as Wayne County's first new treasurer in 39 years.

A three-person panel selected Richard Hathaway to replace Raymond Wojtowicz, who retired this month from the job he held since 1976.

Hathaway, who also has been a judge, currently serves as chief assistant to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy. Hathaway says that he'll work with community organizations to find the necessary funding to continue financial assistance to prevent foreclosure.

Wojtowicz was last elected in 2012.
