Waterfowl Hunter Using Kayak Apparently Drowns

VALLEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities in western Michigan say a 27-year-old man apparently drowned after falling from his kayak while hunting waterfowl.

The Allegan County sheriff's department says authorities began searching Saturday night after finding the hunter's boat and kayak rack near a launch area in the Swan Creek Marsh refuge. It's in Valley Township, northwest of Kalamazoo.

The department says it learned that Kyle Shinske of South Haven had gone out to hunt waterfowl and fish.

It says in a statement that searchers found his body about 8 a.m. Sunday.

The department says that Shinske wasn't wearing a flotation device and says an autopsy is planned.
