Water Main Break Closes Campus Martius

DETROIT (WWJ) A water main break is spewing water at Congress and Woodward, outside the Dime Building, closing Campus Martius between Congress and Cadillac Square.

"You can hear the water, it sounds like it's an ocean," reported WWJ's Laura Bonnell.

Water Department crews have been out since early this morning, doing their best in blowing wind, bitterly cold temperatures and snow. Another 4-6 inches fell in the area overnight.

For nearby resident Chelsea Williams, it means her bus can't get through.

"I absolutely don't know where to catch the bus, I'm kind of out here right now, in the cold and trying to get to work," Williams said.

As of 6 a.m., the water was still flowing down Woodward and more crews were on their way.
