Warren Mother In Custody After Baby's Suspicious Death

WARREN (WWJ) - A mother is facing child abuse and possible murder charges after her 8-month-old son died under what police say are suspicious circumstances.

The baby was found dead Thursday afternoon inside in the Warren Manor Apartments on Dequindre near 8 Mile Road.

Preliminary information showed the baby was in the bathtub and drowned. When police arrived, neighbors were doing CPR on the baby.

The mother originally told police the child choked while eating cookies and milk. Investigators are calling the death a suspicious drowning.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

The mother has been taken into police custody, and is currently jailed on child abuse charges.

Prosecutors are reviewing the case. An investigation is ongoing.
