Volunteer Coach For Detroit Girls' Basketball Team Faces Sex Charges

DETROIT (AP) - A volunteer basketball coach at a Detroit high school has been charged with having inappropriate sexual contact with a 15-year-old student in a car outside her home.

Prosecutors say 25-year-old Kevin Orr-Mathews is in custody and expected to be arraigned Thursday on first- and third-degree criminal sexual conduct charges.

Mathews worked with the girls' basketball team at Henry Ford High School. The 15-year-old was not on the team at the time.

Orr-Mathews' case was not listed in court records and The Associated Press was unable to determine if he has an attorney.

Henry Ford is part of the Education Achievement Authority, Michigan's turnaround district for low-performing public schools.

A district spokesman says a complaint was made to another coach who contacted school officials. Police then were notified.
