Virgin Atlantic Says #HelloDetroit In New Video

By Edward Cardenas

ROMULUS (CBS Detroit) - Stylish airline Virgin Atlantic doesn't start flying to Detroit Metropolitan Airport until June 1, but has taken to social media to introduce the new trans-Atlantic route to its customers.

To introduce its new daily service between Metro Airport and London Heathrow the airline sent crew member Andrea to explore the city and chronicled the visit in a YouTube video.

The video follows the crew member as she drives on I-94 from Detroit Metropolitan Airport - past the Uniroyal tire - into Detroit.

During the nearly two-minute video, Andrea tours the city and takes in notable locations including Eastern Market, the Detroit River, Greektown, restaurants and coffee shops and a visit to the Detroit Institute of Arts.

She also speaks with residents and local business owners about doing business in the city and interacting with residents.

"This is a city waiting to be discovered," Andrea says in the video. "And if you give it that much of a chance, you'll be blown away."

The video follows the creation of an infographic for Virgin's blog with facts about Detroit.

Virgin is taking over the summer-only service Delta Air Lines currently operates and will be extending it to a year-round service.
