Video Seeks Help In Preventing Species Invasions In Great Lakes

Help Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota prevent invasive species - it's easy! by Michigan EGLE on YouTube

LANSING (AP) - Three states in the Great Lakes region are cooperating on a video campaign encouraging boaters and anglers to avoid spreading invasive species.

Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin are sponsoring the video, which targets invaders such as the zebra mussel, Eurasian watermilfoil and spiny water flea.

Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Director Dan Wyant says all three states are encouraging boaters to clean equipment so it won't end up transporting live organisms between waterways.

In addition to running on YouTube, the spot is airing on Detroit Public Television, FOX Sports 1, NBC Sports, The Weather Channel, ESPN2 and the Travel Channel.
