Vandals Destroy Several Headstones In Sashabaw Plains Cemetery

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Police are searching for vandals who damaged several grave stones in an Independence Township cemetery.

Police were called to the Sashabaw Plains Cemetery after someone noticed damaged grave markers.

Deputies were able to locate numerous head stones that were damaged in the middle of the cemetery, some of which were very old.  Some of the head stones were broken and others were broken and scattered about the cemetery.

Exactly when the vandalism took place is unknown but police do say there was some evidence at the cemetery that can be used in hopes of finding those responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Oakland County Sheriff's Office at 248-858-4911 or Crime Stoppers. There is a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
