Valenti & Foster Ask: Could You Go Lions Free?

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) The playing so far has been abysmal, beyond bad, challenging even to people who drink the Honolulu blue Kool Aid.

But can you go totally "Lions free" in Detroit, avoiding all discussion, game footage and engagement in the Sunday spectacle?

Valenti and Foster asked that question on their show Tuesday on 97.1 The Ticket, and the answers ran the gamut. Mike Valenti, for one, said he could do it easily. Watch Valenti and Foster LIVE HERE.

"If not for this job, if I was just floating in space ... Could I go through Sundays completely ignoring the NFL? Yes. I couldn't do that with college football," Valenti said.

On the other side, "even if I did not do this show, I couldn't stay away from watching the Lions," Terry Foster said.

It's where he goes for comedy and drama, he said.

Remember the 2-14 season, when they finally won? That was drama in real life.

"I just love the storylines," Foster said.

Sal in Dearborn texted that he enjoys watching the league, but not watching the Lions, saying he invested "zero time" and "zero emotions" in the Lions.

Caller Mack said, "I think that if you're a Lions fan and you like football, there's no reason not to ... People who say they're done with the Lions or don't need the Lions in their life, I have a hard time sitting with that."

Foster said that he doesn't believe many people who claim they're "Lions free."

Caller Tyler, who was such a fan he had a Lions tattoo on his leg, said he has gone totally Lions free. He even had his tattoo covered after the latest loss, he said.

"I'm going to go for New England," he said.

Valenti added that metro Detroiters are lucky because even if they're fed up with the NFL, they have a choice that many don't -- because we have Michigan State and U-M football to fill in the gap.
