Valenti And Foster On Lions Firings: It Doesn't Change The Season

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) It was an epic disappointment to many Lions fans who were rabid for details of how the team is going to be turned around.

Martha Ford spoke, finally, in front of a room packed with media. She delivered only a couple of short sound bites and walked off stage without taking any questions about the team's sudden decision to change course and summarily fire Martin Mayhew and Tom Lewand.

That was it. Anyone looking for insight or depth was left disappointed, including 97.1 The Ticket's Mike Valenti and Terry Foster.

"She saw everything unraveling," Foster said on his show with Valenti on 97.1 The Ticket Thursday.

He hypothesized that Martha Ford consulted with Bill Ford Jr. on the firings.

But what it came down to for them was this: The season can't be salvaged, even with bold strokes, at this point.

The Lions started the bloodletting last week when Joe Lombardi was dismissed just hours after coach Jim Caldwell said no changes were expected.

And it has many wondering about the next shoe to drop: Is it QB Matthew Stafford? Caldwell?

Or with new management in the front office, could this team maybe, just maybe, find a way to win?
