US Post Office Increases Delivery To 7 Days A Week During Holidays

DETROIT (WWJ) - The United States Postal Service is gearing up for their busiest season - the holidays. And to do that, they've announced they'll be delivering seven days a week - earlier in the morning and later at night, too.

Detroit District Spokesperson Elizabeth Najduch says experience pays off during the busy season.

"The postal service has hired more personel across the country to help with this," says Najduch. "This is our season, so the postal service knows how to deliver the holidays by utilizing extra personel, by making sure transpertation schedules are fixed and on time."

How are they working around the busiest delivery time of the year?

"We started amping up delivery and customers may start seeing delivers in the early morning and they may be out there later in the evening, and even on Sunday we'll be delivering packages," she says.

The USPS is projecting delivery of approximately 600 million packages between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve - which is an increase of just above 10 percent over last year.
