US-23 Reopens After Crash, 8 Mile Road Bridge Closed Until Further Notice

WHITMORE LAKE (WWJ) - That was quick! Officials say US-23 has reopened along the Washtenaw-Livingston County line after crews demolished an overpass that was damaged by a truck.

The accident happened early Thursday morning on northbound US-23 at the 8 Mile Road overpass in Whitmore Lake. By Friday morning, all lanes were open to traffic.

"Initially it looked like this could have been closed for days, weeks or even months but crews apparently made very good progress," said WWJ Traffic Reporter John Bailey.

MDOT said the 8 Mile Road bridge will remain closed for some time.
