Urn With Grandmother's Ashes Stolen During Home Invasion

YPSILANTI TWP. (WWJ) - Washtenaw County Sheriff's deputies are trying to find the burglar who broke into a home and stole the cremated remains of a beloved grandmother.

The home invasion happened Tuesday night in the 2700 block of International Drive, near Washtenaw Avenue and Golfside Road in Ypsilanti Township.

According to police, someone broke into the home between 10:15 and 10:25 p.m., gaining entrance through an unlocked front door.

Once inside, the crook stole an urn that contained the victim's grandmother's cremated ashes and a tool box with various tools, police said.

At this point, police aren't sure who would have done this. Investigators don't have any information on a possible suspect or a motive.

As an investigation into the crime continues, authorities are reminding all residents to lock their doors and windows at night or any time they leave their homes.
