Union Workers At Detroit's 3 Casinos Ratify Contract Deal

DETROIT (AP) - Union members at Detroit's three casinos have ratified a 5-year contract agreement covering about 6,000 workers.

The Detroit Casino Council, a consortium of four unions, reached the deal earlier this month with Greektown Casino, MGM Grand Detroit and MotorCity Casino.

Joe Daugherty, president of Unite Here Local 24, tells the Detroit Free Press in an email Sunday's vote was 95 percent in favor at Greektown, 85 percent in favor at MotorCity and 76 percent in favor at MGM Grand.

The Detroit News reports the contract includes $4,250 signing bonuses as well as wage increases in the fourth and fifth years. It also holds the line on health care costs.

Negotiations were closely watched by Detroit leaders because of the high volume of tourism and tax revenue generated by the casinos.
