EXCLUSIVE: Under Construction For A Decade, Detroit Megachurch Hopes To Open Next Year [VIDEO]

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's been over ten years in the making, but there could be some light at the end of a tunnel for a Detroit mega-church that's still under construction.

Construction superintendent, 86-year-old Roy Criss on Thursday took WWJ Newsradio 950's Vickie Thomas on a tour of what will eventually become the new Perfecting Church.

"Location, location, location. Woodward and 7 Mile, I think, is the center of the world," Criss said.

While a small crew was at work inside, Criss talked Thomas through some of the highlights.

"The sanctuary will seat approximately 4,400 people. We've got a fellowship hall that will seat 1,300, 1,400 people...We have a large 2,400-square-foot kitchen."

At this point, he said, the church is relying on donations to complete construction.

"We had bank money a few years ago and then some issues happened on Wall Street and financial institutions froze funding for the churches around the county, quite frankly," Criss said. "And this beautiful congregation is building this church out of the collection plate."

Bishop Marvin Winans says he hopes to open the doors next year.
