UM Regent Denise Ilitch Says Dave Brandon Will Be Discussed At Upcoming Meeting: 'The System Failed'

CBS DETROIT - The hit that concussed Michigan quarterback Shane Morris several weeks ago continues to reverberate for the university, where athletic director Dave Brandon and head coach Brady Hoke have come under heavy fire because of the in-game handling of Morris and the ensuing communication failures.
University of Michigan regent Denise Ilitch told WWJ TV's Carol Cain that Brandon will be discussed when the regents meet Thursday.
"The reaction has been very strong," Ilitch said during the interview for "Michigan Matters." "I've received hundreds of letters. I know my fellow regents have as well. We'll be discussing it at the meeting. I'm sure we'll have people come to the public meeting and give their opinion.
"The system failed that day," Ilitch added, "and there are a lot of issues that we need to review now."
The situation with Morris garnered national attention when the quarterback, who was noticeably shaken by the hit, stayed in for one more play and later returned for another one. Hoke said the Monday after the game that Morris had not been diagnosed with a concussion, but Brandon issued a statement at 1 a.m. saying Morris did in fact have a concussion. The whole debacle led to calls for the jobs of both Brandon and Hoke.
