Uber Driver Kidnapped, Then Carjacked On Detroit's West Side

DETROIT (WWJ) -- An Uber driver was kidnapped and later carjacked early Sunday morning on Detroit's west side.

Police say the incident happened near 7 Mile Rd. and Greenfield just before 4:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The driver was hailed to Schaefer and Schoolcraft. When the passenger got in the car, he stuck a gun in the driver's mouth and ordered him to hand over $2,000 in cash.

The man then ordered the driver to get into the passenger seat before he took him to a nearby ATM. The driver was able to wrestle the gun away from the suspect and jump out of the vehicle before the suspect drove away.

The driver was robbed of $120, the 2008 Lincoln Navigator in which the crime took place, a black leather wallet and a Samsung Note 5 smartphone.

The suspect is described as a 29-year-old black male, 5-foot-5 and 110 pounds with short hair and a light complexion. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and was armed with a handgun and a knife.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to contact Detroit police.
