U.S. Women's World Cup Team Scores In Fathead Sales

By Edward Cardenas

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - The U. S. Women's World Cup soccer team is excelling on the field and online with Detroit-based Fathead.

Sales of merchandise from the U.S. Women's National Team, which plays Tuesday night against Germany for a chance to play for the World Cup, has already surpassed sales of items from their male counterparts who competed in the Men's World Cup last year.

"The sales have been spectacular," said Michael Layne, Fathead director of Internet marketing. "Far ahead of what we saw with the men's team last year."

Fathead saw a jump in sales last year as the men's team competed in Brazil fans purchasing player wall graphics, full size player cutouts and head cutouts of their favorite players.

As the Women's National Team has played in Canada for the Women's World Cup, interest has grown in the team and in products from the Detroit based graphics company.

This weekend with the assistance of current players Abby Wambach, Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe, who shared a discount offer for products, Fathead sold as many units as the previous 10 days.

"The U.S. Women's National Team is the most visited team on our website," said Layne, who added that the team has also sold the most unit and produced the most revenue for company.

Layne added that if the team wins a spot in the final, expect new products on the website.

Fans can still get a discount on U.S. Women's National Team products by entering the code 30USA at checkout.
