U.S. Attorney In Detroit Appoints Official To Oversee Complaints During Presidential Election

DETROIT (WWJ) - U.S. Attorney in Detroit Barbara McQuade has appointed a woman to oversee complaints of election fraud during this presidential election.

McQuade says Dawn Ison will look into any complaints of intimidation or stuffing ballot boxes.

She says interfering with someone's right to vote is a federal offense.

" .... or do anything that might harass voters; videotaping, photographing, threatening that if you get to the front of the line someone is waiting there to arrest you or going to check if you're up to date on your child support. Those kind of tactics, we hear sometimes, are threatened in elections we just want to make sure that none of that happens in our district," said McQuade.

She says usually the complaint calls are regarding things like power outages or a lack of pencils.

"We often get a handful, I will tell you in the past, most of the issues that occurred are not fraudulent or criminal but relate more to human error; power outages, long lines ..." says McQuade.

Those with problems on election day can call the Hotline at 1-800-253-3931.
