U.S. Attorney Announces Indictment Of 9 Detroit Gang Members

DETROIT (WWJ) - Nine members of a notorious Detroit street gang are being charged with a variety of crimes including murder and assault. The Bounty Hunter Bloods worked on Detroit's westside said U-S Attorney Barbara McQuade.

The federal indictments coincide with the one-year anniversary of the Detroit One initiative reports WWJ's Marie Osborne. The crime fighting initiative consists of local, state and federal agencies, along with community groups who have joined together to fight crime in the city.

According to the federal indictment the 'bloods' were prolific users of Facebook, Instagram and CrushSpot posting pictures of themselves wearing their gang colors and bragging about their gang-related activities like murder, drug trafficking and arson.

They created rap song that highlighted their gang ties - all great evidence according to McQuade.

"They are very hierarchical, very organized roles," McQuade said. "There are assignments and rules for violation of the rules, so it really is fascinating."

The 'bloods' are among 114 people being charged through the crime fighting initiative.

McQuade also noted that there has been a 15 percent reduction in the total number of homicides in the city of Detroit in 2012-13, and the first quarter of 2014 shows a 38 percent reduction.
