Two teens recovering after hit by vehicle in Lincoln Park, Michigan

Two children were hospitalized after they were struck by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon in Lincoln Park, Michigan, according to police.

The incident happened in the area of Fort Street and Emmons Boulevard. Police did not release the children's ages but said they are under 17 years old. Police say the children were crossing the street when they were hit. One of the kids was listed in serious but stable condition, and the other was listed in critical but stable condition.

Police did not release details on the two kids; however, Shawn Clapper, who lives nearby, said that they were his friend's kids.

CBS News Detroit reached out to the kids' family, who said they expect them to make a full recovery.

"It's a tragedy. They are definitely in my prayers," said Clapper.

Authorities said the driver stayed on the scene and cooperated with police.

While the incident is under investigation, Clapper said drivers tend to speed on Fort Street.

"They go overboard. They go way too fast through here. They need to put more lights over there and in certain areas. They need to put more lights, and they need to slow down ... They're just flying too fast."
