Two In Serious Condition After Parade Float, Car Crash

LAPEER TOWNSHIP (AP) — Two women remain hospitalized with critical injuries following a weekend rural Michigan crash in which a car struck a parade vehicle and an 80-year-old woman died.

Lapeer County sheriff's Detective Sgt. Jason Parks says that 73-year-old Grace Butterfield and 76-year-old Janet Lough were in serious condition Monday at a hospital, two days after the Lapeer Township crash. Parks says Lough is on life-support.

Jeanette Rumptz of Metamora Township died Saturday morning after turning her car left and into the truck converted to resemble a steam locomotive. It was heading to the Metamora Country Days parade about five miles away.

Parks says the specialty vehicle driver and several passengers also remained in the hospital but with less serious injuries. Ten people were in the vehicle.

Authorities continue to investigate.
