Two commercial buildings in Metro Detroit smashed by vehicles

Two incidents under investigation involving attempts to smash into a building

Authorities are investigating two incidents early Monday in Metro Detroit during which vehicles appear to be intentionally rammed into commercial buildings.

One of those happened at Prestige Hookah & Smoke Shop along Eight Mile Road in Ferndale, where a truck slammed into the doors of the business building. The Michigan State Police said a security alarm system at the building sent a breaking and entering alert at 3:25 a.m. to Detroit Regional Communication Center. When troopers arrived, they found a U-Haul box truck had been used to drive into the front of the store.

Ferndale Fire Department and DTE Energy crews were called to the scene to help deal with damaged water and electric lines.

The U-Haul was not reported stolen at the time of the crash; however, police said damage to the truck includes a punched ignition and damaged steering column.

Michigan State Police ask that anyone with information that can assist in the investigation contact Metro North Post at at 248-584-5740 or Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 800-SPEAK-UP.

Another incident was reported along Fenkell Avenue in Detroit, where a check cashing business was smashed into. Detroit Police are investigating that incident, it is not yet known whether anything was stolen in that crash.
