Trump Selects Ambassador For The Netherlands, Bahrain

WASHINGTON (WWJ/AP) — President Donald Trump will nominate former Michigan Republican Congressman Peter Hoekstra to serve as the U.S. ambassador to the Netherlands.

Hoekstra previously served as chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and was the ranking Republican on the Committee until 2011, the White House said.

Hoekstra has ties to the state of Michigan. He attended Holland Christian High School and graduated from Hope College in 1975. He later graduated from the University of Michigan with a master's in business administration. He still has ties to west Michigan's Dutch community.

Trump also picked career diplomat Justin Siberell to serve as ambassador to Bahrain.

Siberell is the current acting coordinator for counterterrorism at the Bureau of Counterterrorism at the State Department. He has worked throughout the Middle East.

The White House also announced that Trump has selected former New York Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle to chair the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Trump's picks must be approved by the Senate.
