Truck Driver Airlifted To Hospital After Rollover Crash On I-75

MONROE (WWJ) - A 47-year-old truck driver was taken by helicopter to the hospital after his rig rolled over into a ditch on I-75 in Monroe County.

The accident happened around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday on southbound I-75 between La Plaisance and South Outer Creek roads, near the Monroe Welcome Center.

Authorities say the semi-truck rolled into a ditch after the driver somehow lost control. The driver, who was trapped inside his cab, was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo by Life Flight Helicopter. His injuries are described as non life-threatening.

One other person was taken to Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe in stable condition for treatment of injuries.

The freeway was closed for several hours while police investigated but has since reopened.

The incident remains under investigation.
