TROY (WWJ) - A 31-year-old man suspected in a rash of air conditioner thefts in Troy over the past few months is now in police custody.

Police say Joshua Thomas Roberts was arrested last weekend and arraigned in 52-4 District Court, where he pleaded not guilty to a charge of felony larceny over $20,000. Bond was set at $5,500.

Roberts is accused of stealing parts from dozens of air conditioning units between Dec. 21 and Jan. 4. Many of the crimes occurred in the upscale Hidden Forest subdivision, near Livernois and Wattles roads, and went largely unnoticed because residents are not using their AC units in the middle of winter.

Roberts is due back in court for a preliminary exam on March 5.
