Troy Man Killed, Thrown From Cadillac In I-75 Rollover Crash

TROY (WWJ) - Police say both excessive speed and alcohol played a role in a fatal crash that shut down a portion of I-75 overnight.

According to investigators, 30-year-old Joshua Watkins of Troy was thrown from his Cadillac CTS after he lost control and struck the median guardrail along I-75 southbound in Troy. The vehicle traveled across all lanes and struck the rail on the right shoulder before flipping over and ejecting him, police said.

Watkins was not wearing a seat belt, according to police, and died at the scene.

A passenger in the car, identified as 21-year-old Skyler Darbins of Pontiac, suffered minor injuries. She was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Pontiac for treatment.

A section of the freeway at the crash scene was close to traffic for more than four hours for an accident investigation.

The freeway has since reopened but an investigation is ongoing. Any additional witnesses are asked to call Troy police at 248-524-3477.
