Trooper Narrowly Avoids Getting Struck By 74-Year-Old Driver

LIVONIA (WWJ) In the midst of snow-covered mayhem on area roads Friday morning, there was a close call for one Michigan State Police trooper.

The trooper's patrol car was hit along southbound I-275 near Six Mile this morning as he was talking with a driver involved in a spinout accident.

The Troy man in a 2015 Subaru who hit the trooper's car said he knew he hit something, but was late for a flight, so he just kept going.

"The trooper was finally able to box in the vehicle," MSP said in a press release.

The trooper wasn't hurt.

The elderly driver was ticketed for leaving the scene of an accident and careless driving.

Overall, troopers have responded to more than 50 crashes since midnight on metro Detroit freeways. There have been no serious injuries.
