"Triangle Project" Breaks Ground For Construction At Farmington Hills - W. Bloomfield Twp Border

OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) - Groundbreaking ceremonies Tuesday for the "Triangle Project" where 14 Mile and Orchard Lake Roads meet Northwestern Highway at the Farmington Hills - West Bloomfield Township border.

Oakland County Road Commission Chairman Greg Jamian says the $20 million project has been 25 years in the making.

"These improvements will significantly improve traffic safety and traffic flow in the areas and I want to underscore traffic safety," said Jamian.

Northwestern-triangle reconstruction.

Work begins Friday with the closure and realignment of 14 Mile Road south of the triangle to intersect with Northwestern Highway.

A roundabout for Orchard Lake and 14 Mile roads will be built next year. Traffic between the northwest suburbs and the city will not be part of the roundabout.

"We recognize this project will cause inconvenience for motorists; please be patient, when we complete this project it will bring so much better flow to this triangle intersection and also be so much safer," said Ron Fowkes vice chairman with the Road Commission.

This summer's first leg of the project will realign 14 Mile Road to intersect south of the triangle, which will curve around and connect with Orchard Lake Road as part of the roundabout being constructed next year.
