Trial To Start For Man In Slayings Of 2 During Eviction

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A man is scheduled to face trial in the shooting deaths of a Detroit homeowner and his adult daughter during an eviction.

Twenty-two-year-old Alonzo Long Jr. in charged the slayings of 72-year-old Howard Franklin and 37-year-old Catherine Franklin.

He's due in Wayne County Circuit Court for trial starting on Monday.

The Franklins had purchased the home on Piedmont street in October of 2014 through auction and were in the process of claiming the home which had occupants.

The father and daughter reportedly called police when they noticed that the people moving from the home were removing fixtures from the house as they vacated but police did not immediately respond.

The father and daughter were armed as was the defendant but it's not known at this time who fired shots first.

The shooting occurred when he showed up with an eviction order.

Long was described as a nephew of the home's occupant. He is charged with first-degree murder and other crimes.
