Trial Ordered For Man In Slayings Of 2 During Eviction

DETROIT (AP) - A man has been ordered to stand trial in the shooting deaths of a Detroit homeowner and his adult daughter during an eviction.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says Alonzo Long Jr. was bound over Tuesday to circuit court following his preliminary examination in the slayings of 72-year-old Howard Franklin and 37-year-old Catherine Franklin.

Shots were fired Nov. 28 during a dispute over the removal of fixtures at a house Howard Franklin had acquired at a tax foreclosure sale. He had allowed people to stay in the house. The shooting occurred when he showed up with an eviction order.

The 22-year-old Long was described as a nephew of the home's occupant. He is charged with first-degree murder and other crimes.

A Jan. 13 circuit court arraignment is scheduled.
