Trial Ordered For Man Blamed For Detroit Dog Pack Attack

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - The case against a man blamed for an October dog pack attack that left a Detroit man with missing limbs is heading to trial.

Derick Felton, 62, on Wednesday waived a preliminary examination to determine whether there's enough evidence for trial.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, he's scheduled to make his first appearance in Wayne County Circuit Court at 9 a.m. on April 22.

Felton is charged with harboring a dangerous animal causing serious injury.

The hearing in the case was initially scheduled last month, but it was postponed in part after victim Steve Constantine couldn't make it because of his condition.

When officers came upon the scene in the 4500 block of Pennsylvania, police said, Constantine was lying in a yard, naked, being attacked by 12 pit bulls. Police said he lost most of his left arm, his left leg below the knee and his left ear during the mauling.

Neighbors had complained to police multiple times about Felton's dogs running loose — and it appears, prior to this incident — they'd escaped the home through a side door.

Police killed one dog at the scene and rounded up at least 11 others.

According to reports, Constatine was recently released from a rehabilitation facility to his sister's home where he is continuing his recovery.
