Trial Delayed Until 2015 For Dad, Stepmom Of Boy Found In Basement
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Why was Charlie Bothuell V found barricaded in a basement, and how long was he down there? It's going to be awhile before we find out more.
The father and stepmother of the 12-year-old Detroit boy discovered in the bowel's of his family's condo after an 11-day disappearance will not be back in court until Jan. 26, 2015.
The trial, which will determine whether Charlie Bothuell IV and Monique Dillard-Bothuell will lose custody of their children, had been scheduled to start Monday in Wayne County juvenile court.
Assistant Attorney General Virginia Trzaskoma said proceedings were delayed at the request of the couple's lawyers.
Michigan is seeking to terminate the couple's rights to two other children and the father's rights to Charlie Bothuell V.
A petition filed in Wayne County's family court alleges Dillard-Bothuell ordered young Charlie to complete extreme daily workouts and hide in the basement as a punishment. Another petition alleges Charlie Bothuell IV physically disciplined his son with a PVC pipe, leaving scars.
Police found the boy in the basement of his father's Detroit home on June 25.
No criminal charges have been filed.
