Tree Trimmer Dies After Falling 50-Feet, Head First Out Of Tree In Bloomfield Hills

BLOOMFILED HILLS (WWJ) - Investigators are trying to determine exactly what caused a tree trimmer to fall 50-feet to his death, even though he was wearing a safety harness.

The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. Thursday near Woodward Avenue and Long Lake Road.

According to police, a commercial crew was working in trees at a home when a 40-year-old worker fell 50-feet, head first, to the ground below. The worker suffered major head trauma and was declared dead at the scene.

No one saw the accident happen, according to police, as the crew had left the worker to get other equipment. Police say the worker was wearing a harness, but a rope may have broken or failed.

The worker's name has not yet been released.

The accident remains under investigation.
