Traverse City Film Fest To Highlight Michigan-Themed Movies

TRAVERSE CITY (AP) - Oscar winner Michael Moore is showcasing works by his fellow Michigan natives during this year's Traverse City Film Festival.

Moore has released the lineup of films for the festival he co-founded, which runs from July 26-31.

Among them is a documentary about Detroit federal judge Damon Keith called "Walk With Me" and another called "Men of Sparta" about Michigan State University's racially integrated championship football teams of the 1960s.

"Generation Startup" follows the efforts of six recent college graduates to establish businesses in Detroit. Also planned are short films by students from Michigan State and the University of Michigan.

Altogether, more than 200 movies will be shown. Moore says there's an emphasis on works by women and minorities who often don't get a fair chance in Hollywood.
