Trash Talk Gets Heated; Flint Councilman Mays Escorted Out Of Council Meeting

FLINT (WWJ) - Flint Councilman Eric Mays was handcuffed and escorted out of last night's council meeting. Mays is the lone supporter of Mayor Karen Weaver's decision to replace the city's long time garbage services with a cheaper alternative.

"My job as a trustee of the city is to try to make sure we do things right according to charter and ordinance .... my position was you can not discuss a multi-million dollar garbage contract in five minutes," said Mays.

Mays says Rizzo Services was the lowest responsible bidder, bidding two million dollars less than other competing contractors.

Separately, several council members are suing Weaver over the trash clash.

Monday night Weaver said Republic will be back on the job Tuesday and at least through Aug. 12. She hopes a state board that is monitoring Flint's weak finances will settle the controversy on Aug. 10.

The council has another meeting next Monday.
