Traffic Snarls On I-96 After Forklift Falls Off Truck

BRIGHTON (WWJ) - It took crews about two hours to clear the wreckage from I-96 after a forklift fell off of a flat-bed truck during the busy morning rush hour.

The accident took place just after 7 a.m. Thursday on eastbound I-96 near Kensington Road.

It's not exactly clear what happened, but a forklift that was being hauled on a flat-bed truck somehow became dislodged and fell onto the freeway, blocking all lanes.

A traffic jam happened almost immediately, with motorists backed up for more than six miles.

Crews were eventually able to move the wreckage to the freeway's right lanes, allowing traffic to pass the scene on the left.

By 9:10 a.m., the scene had been cleared and the freeway was completely reopened to traffic.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and no injuries were reported.
