Traffic Alert: Southbound I-275 Reopening For Weekend, Northbound Closing July 5

The freeway officially reopened around 5 p.m. on Friday.

"The contract really didn't call for either direction to be open for the holiday. We thought that it would be under construction in one direction, so this is a bonus. Everyone has worked hard and we're going to hold off on any closures over the holiday weekend once southbound is complete," MDOT's I-275 project manager Bill Erben told WWJ's Jon Hewett.
After the weekend, crews will start work on the northbound side of the freeway, which is expected to close Tuesday, July 5 after the morning rush hour. Traffic will be forced off northbound I-275 at the I-96/M-14 interchange. The detour will be eastbound I-96 to northbound M-39 (Southfield Freeway), then westbound M-10 to westbound I-696, on to westbound I-96 or northbound M-5.
