Tips Sought On Maker Of Homemade Explosive

VALLEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities are continuing to search for the person or persons who made a homemade explosive that ended up at a dam along the Kalamazoo River.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reports Tuesday that the Allegan County sheriff's office is asking the public for tips in the case.

Consumers Energy employees found a jug containing what appeared to be an accelerant with a firework taped to the side on March 20 among debris and ice being removed from an intake screen area.

Undersheriff Frank Baker has said it doesn't appear that the explosive was intended as a threat to the dam in Valley Township. Baker said the jug may have floated down the river from elsewhere.

Anyone with information about the device should contact the sheriff's office at 269-673-0500.
