Tips Sought In Houghton Lake Snowmobiling Duck Deaths

HOUGHTON LAKE, Mich. (AP) - State officials are seeking the public's help in finding a snowmobiler who apparently struck and killed seven ducks during the annual Tip-Up Town celebration on Houghton Lake.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says it was told Sunday about the ducks that were discovered near the Iroquois Street bridge in the East Bay area of the lake in Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula. An injured mallard also was found.

The DNR says the incident happened near open water where a canal enters the lake, an area known as a place where ducks congregate. Investigators found a single set of snowmobile tracks.

The ducks had injuries consistent with blunt force trauma.

The injured duck appeared to have a broken wing and was taken to a wildlife rehabilitator for care.
