Tighter Medical Marijuana Rules Being Considered In Warren
WARREN, Mich. (AP) - A Detroit suburb is considering regulations to tighten restrictions on growing, transporting and distributing medical marijuana.
The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reports a Warren City Council public hearing is Nov. 10
Mayor Jim Fouts says his proposal is prompted by concerns about medical marijuana in residential areas. He tells the Detroit Free Press it "goes much beyond what the state Legislature is doing" and would "control the whole aspect of medical marijuana growing in the neighborhoods."
Michigan voters approved marijuana use for some chronic medical conditions in 2008.
Detroit City Council recently approved regulations for the city's medical marijuana industry, which has about 150 shops. Under the rules, the businesses would have to get a city license; background checks would be required; and drive-thru service would be prohibited.
