Tigers Purchase Contracts Of Myles Jaye And Chad Bell

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers today announced that the club has purchased the contracts of righthanded pitcher Myles Jaye and lefthanded pitcher Chad Bell from Triple A Toledo.

Jaye, 24, split the 2016 season between Double A Erie and Triple A Toledo, compiling a 5-12 record with a 3.95 ERA (161.2IP/71ER) and 135 strikeouts in 28 starts. Jaye earned Eastern League Pitcher of the Week twice during the 2016 season. In six minor league seasons, Jaye has posted a 44-51 record with a 4.11 ERA (766.1IP/350ER) and 570 strikeouts in 140 appearances (136 starts). Jaye was acquired from the Texas Rangers along with catcher Bobby Wilson on March 29 in exchange for catcher Bryan Holaday. A native of Fayetteville, Ga., Jaye was originally drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 17th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Bell, 27, spent time with both Triple A Toledo and Triple A Round Rock in the Texas Rangers organization in 2016. In 33 appearances, including 12 starts, Bell had an 11-4 record with a 3.29 ERA (98.1IP/36ER) and 88 strikeouts. Bell earned International League Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending May 29. In six seasons in the minors, Bell has posted a 42-32 record with three saves, a 3.66 ERA (656.1IP/267ER) and 532 strikeouts in 177 appearances (96 starts). Bell was acquired from the Texas Rangers on May 3 in exchange for catcher Bobby Wilson. A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Bell was a 14th round selection of the Rangers in the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Additionally, the Tigers have reinstated righthanded pitcher Drew VerHagen (right shoulder thoracic outlet syndrome, 60-day DL on June 14, retroactive to May 23) from the 60-day disabled list.

The Tigers 40-man roster now stands at 40.
