Three-Alarm Fire Destroys Commercial Bldg. In Downtown Mt. Clemens

MT. CLEMENS, Mich. (WWJ) - Investigators from the Macomb County Sheriff's Department are working to find the cause of a massive overnight fire near downtown Mount Clemens.

WWJ's Ron Dewey reports from the scene that the three-alarm fire broke out at a commercial building on Cass Avenue, just west of downtown Mt. Clemens. The building held at least three businesses, including a baseball training center and a fitness center.

Firefighters from eight different fire departments from the northern part of Macomb County, including the Selfridge Air National Guard Base, were called in to fight the fire that broke out early Sunday evening. Firefighters were kept busy throughout the night and early Monday morning.

No injuries have been reported, but the building is a total loss. Dewey says the structure is still standing, but the wall and roof of the building collapsed when the fire ripped through it, leaving the structure completely gutted.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
