Thousands Crowd Midtown For Annual 'African World Festival'
DETROIT (WWJ) -- In addition to the Woodward Dream Cruise, tens of thousands of people were expected to converge on the grounds of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History this weekend in Detroit for the 32nd Annual African World Festival.
Njia Kye, Director of the festival said that the event will cover more ground this year.
"This is our third event held on the grounds of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History," Kye said. "This year, we have expanded the reach of the festival down to Peck Park."
Special performances on Saturday night included a set by the legendary gospel singers, The Clark Sisters.
"We found that the festival is a great fit here on the grounds of the museum," Kye said. "We use the surrounding streets and have stretched out now into Peck Park, so there's plenty of space -- the show continues to grow."
