Thieves Use Sledge-Hammer In Detroit Pharmacy Break-In

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities are searching for the suspects who robbed a Midtown Detroit pharmacy, using a sledge-hammer to break into the building.

The incident happened early Tuesday morning at Woodward Pharmacy, located in a strip mall along Woodward Avenue just south of Chicago Boulevard.

The thieves gained entry to the building by using a sledge-hammer on a back wall, but not before tripping a burglar alarm that brought police to the scene. The suspects, however, were able to get away before officers arrived.

One of the pharmacy's co-owners told WWJ's Ron Dewey that the crooks made off with a small amount of cash from the till, but they did not get to any of the controlled substances, which were locked up.

Police have not made any arrests. Descriptions of the suspects were not immediately released.
