Thieves Steal ATM Containing $4000 From Gas Station In Smash And Grab

NEW HUDSON (WWJ) - Thieves got away with thousands of dollars Friday morning after they smashed their way into an Oakland County gas station.

Investigators received surveillance video showing the thieves using a car to smash their way into a BP gas station near Grand River and Kent Lake in New Hudson.

The two male suspects placed a chain around the ATM which was located near the door and were able to open the outer casing of the ATM, exposing the safe. The suspects were then able to remove the safe which contained about $4,000 dollars.

Sherry Heinz, the general manager of the station, said that they will do what they can to help police find the suspects.

"The people who took it had gloves on -- stuff like that," Heinz said. "We've got to call the video guy to see if he can enhance the license plate and stuff like that and maybe we can catch them."

The thieves drove off in a white truck, possibly a Ford F-250. The incident was the third robbery at the same BP gas station since Christmas.

"The first time it happened was Christmas morning, they came in and tried to take the ATM and they couldn't get the ATM and we had to get the door boarded up," Heinz said. "Then a couple of weeks later, they pulled the door open and stole cigarettes."
