Thieves Make Way With ATM At Secretary Of State Office In Dearborn

DEARBORN (WWJ) - The Secretary of State's office won't be open Monday on Schafer in east Dearborn after thieves drove through the front door overnight and made off with the ATM.

WWJ's Ron Dewey says they left a big mess, broken glass, busted door-wall and twisted metal in the wake of the theft.

Witnesses tell police that they heard a crash and booming sound around 11:30 Sunday night followed by a red-colored van driving away shortly after.

While ATMs are not typically smash and grab targets of theft due to their weight and difficulty in opening - these thieves were not deterred.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
