The Very First Letterman [VIDEO]

It is the circle of Dave. Now that Letterman has announced his retirement, many fans are watching "Late Night With David Letterman" from the beginning. He certainly started off with a bang. On February 1, 1982 a young Bill Murray made a classic appearance as the first guest.

Murray and Letterman had great chemistry, and I love that they started busting each other's chops immediately. Letterman may have been nervous (to keep his hands busy he was holding and petting a handful of pencils for almost the entire interview, and, as you know, those pencils would become a signature part of his act), but you could see that Dave's style and magic with the camera and the audience were already in place.

Once 2015 hits, and David Letterman rides off into the sunset with Paul Shaffer, it makes you wonder if anyone can really take his place. The internet has already been swirling with ideas. I have seen everything from Stephen Colbert to Chris Rock to Tim Tebow. My favorite suggestion was Conan O'Brian. Wouldn't THAT be an interesting turn of events?
